Faith in Deeds Ministry is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization committed to the support of disenfranchised children of India by providing the children with a family atomosphere in which they can be discipled in the ways of the Lord Jesus, by educating them in a manner that they can make properly informed life decisions, based on a Biblical world view, and by inspiring them to love each other and to share the love of Jesus throughout their community. Discovery Financial's First "Charitable Denim Day" ContributionWe are happy to report in the first quarter of starting our "Charitable Denim Day" project, our team raised $410! On Monday, December 21, 2015, we chose to give our money to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth. We visited the boys and girls at the Steil Club and enjoyed sharing a pizza lunch, playing Bingo, cutting out snowflakes and playing games in their gym. It's an awesome place! Children who have a safe place to be after school, where there is productive activity and people to support them, are 90 percent more likely to graduate from high school and move on to pursue a higher education. Boys & Girls Clubs subscribe to the theory that programs should provide youth with a Sense of Belonging, a Sense of Usefulness, a Sense of Competence and a Sense of Power or Influence. With the support from this event and from our community, Dégagé Ministries is able to provide numerous programs for those in need. A few impressive results for 2014 include offering over 10,900 showers in their Life Enrichment Center; helping 47 women from Dégagé's Open Door Program move into their own apartment; doing over 6,230 loads of laundry; distributing over 10,800 bus tickets; and assisting 1,110 patrons in obtaining their State IDs or license. The outing raised over $50,000 net for The American Cancer Society, and even more importantly, for Hope Lodge, in downtown Grand Rapids.The Grand Rapids Hope Lodge is the first Hope Lodge in Michigan and the Society's 25th in the country. Hope Lodge is a "home away from home" for cancer patients and for their caregivers who need to travel to Grand Rapids for treatment. Discovery Financial Helps Make Essay Contest Possible Discovery Financial, LLC was a 'Patron' level sponsor for the Economic Club's essay contest for area high school students. This is the 35th anniversary of the essay contest, and applicants were asked to write a 1500 to 2500 word essay on this year's theme: "Funding Higher Education: What Changes are Needed to Meet Projected Talent Needs of U.S. Employers?" Judges consisted of Economic Club members as well as Tom Haas, President of Grand Valley State University. She is currently the campaign committee representative for the Gun Lake Area. “All the money raised goes to those in need since an endowment that was set up years ago pays 100% of the administration costs for Barry County’s United Way office,” says Welton. They joined other local volunteers in the Hastings community do yard work and window washing at Green Gables.
